Dear Friends,
Another year has passed and our Stillwater Bluffs remains intact. It has been a year with some anxiety as we’ve had to investigate periodic rumors of impending logging of Mosaic lands in the Stillwater area. Fortunately, we haven’t needed to ask for your help or support as although some blocks of Mosaic land have been sold privately and logging is to take place in the Lois lake / Stillwater area, our park appears to be momentarily safe.
NEWSFLASH: Our AGM is scheduled for Monday, February 23rd, 2026. The meeting will take place starting at 7:00 pm in the Brooks School Library. You may feel AGM meetings are ho hum affairs where you show up, vote for the same old roster and, if you’re lucky, get a free cookie as payment for listening to the painful speeches. The 2026 FOSBA AGM will not be that. There’s too much at stake. If we can find the necessary energy and make the intelligent decisions, we can secure the Stillwater Bluffs park for many generations to come. That is our focus. Please come to this meeting. Bring your ideas and share and listen and vote.
There will be at least one resignation whose position needs to be filled. That will be president. I (Lauritz) will be stepping down as president, but I plan to remain on the board to work with and help the new board in any way I can. We need an energetic individual with a fundraising background willing to focus their energies on helping find a way to purchase the Stillwater Bluffs. FOSBA is well organized and respected throughout our community. We have 634 members from all walks of life who have pledged their support. We have a healthy bank account with which to initiate fundraising and community awareness projects. We have strong support from our qRD as well as from our local provincial MLA Randene Neill.
CALL FOR NEW PRESIDENT
As President of FOSBA your main objectives will be:
fundraising from both inside and outside our community. It would be helpful to have a history within the community as well as an understanding of the mechanics of fundraising. You will assemble a team to help you. FOSBA’s board of directors can be called upon but you can also bring in individuals with expertise in different areas.
To clearly articulate the purpose of the fundraising and to give progress updates to the membership on a regular basis.
To initiate various fundraising activities, be they art auctions, community dances, etc.
To continue our drive to increase our membership. In March of 2024 our membership consisted of around 250 members. Today we have 634.
To call and conduct board meetings and an AGM as required.
PHOTO CONTEST:
Send us your best photos of the Bluffs taken in the past year so we can put together a slide show for the AGM. 1st, 2nd, and 3rd prizes will be awarded and will be voted upon by the attendees.
Our AGM date is that upon which our annual $10 membership fee becomes due. If you come to the meeting you can pay at that time. Otherwise the easiest option is to e-transfer $10 to friendsofstillwaterbluffs@gmail.com . Please remember to pay your dues. It is a small ask but with 634 members it will amount to over $6000 flowing into our bank account. A lot can be done with those funds to help save the Bluffs. Also of course should you wish to make a larger donation and would like a receipt you can go to our website https://www.fosba.org and donate to our acquisition fund.
And once again speaking of money – When dropping off your returnables please don’t forget to credit them to FOSBA.
See you at the AGM, Feb. 23rd, Brooks library, 7:00 pm. Wear your FOSBA T shirt. (available at the gear attic in the Townsite Mall)
Lauritz Chambers
Pres.
