Dear friends,
Our bulletin is a bit early this month as it focuses on where each of the B.C. election candidates for our riding stands with respect to preserving the Stillwater Bluffs as a regional park. With voting day being Oct. 19th, we thought this information would be helpful for you in deciding how to mark your ballot. The following request was sent out to each candidate on Oct. 8th, namely Chris Moore, (Conservative), Christopher Hergesheimer, (Green) Randene Neill, (NDP) and Greg Reid (Independent) Unfortunately we have only had feedback from two of the candidates despite sending out a reminder on Oct. 12th.
Dear Candidates,
The mission of the Friends of Stillwater Bluffs (FOSBA) is to save DL 3040 as a low impact regional park. It is presently Privately Managed Forest Land owned by Mosaic Forest Management, a subsidiary of Island Timberlands. We have been in this fight since 2008 and have a supportive membership of some 500 “friends” with whom we communicate monthly through our bulletin. We would very much like to know your views regarding the preservation of this 120-acre piece of paradise as a low impact park. Specifically, if you become a member of our next provincial government would you support our cause? If you answer in the affirmative, how would you show your support? We look forward to your answer and will publish it unedited in our Oct. 15th bulletin. (More about us at https://www.fosba.org)
Randene Neill NDP
“Stillwater Bluffs is an exceptionally beautiful place. Almost 50 hectares, it is home to eagles and sea lions and a dry coastal maritime forest comprised of scattered old growth and abundant second growth Douglas fir and Western Red Cedar.
I support helping to protect this land by advocating for the Friends of Stillwater Bluffs, and working together with governments, First Nations and the community to find solutions to permanently protect it.”
Randene
Greg Reid Independent
“I'm running on a platform of direct democracy and public servant for our Sunshine Coast riding to the extent that I will always and only voice the wishes of constituents. As a candidate I can only imagine that protecting the bluffs would meet with the overwhelming approval of the electorate. I hope that adequately addresses the political side of your question.
As a private citizen, I have always been in favor of safeguarding the beauty and splendor of nature for all to enjoy, not just now, but for generations to come.
sincerely,
Greg Reid
