Dear friends,
There’s an intriguing art event on at the qathet art gallery (above the library) featuring the work of Claudia Medina. Sitting in a room surrounded by video and audio images featuring our Stillwater Bluffs, Claudia timewarps us into the shapeshifting, mystical realm of the naguala, “where the boundaries between, animals, plants, earth, cosmos, reality and the supernatural dissolve and are reconfigured”. Witnessing the event I could literally feel my skin dissolve away until I was left sitting speechless. My sense of indigenous knowledge had shifted and I felt increasingly aware of how first nations peoples’ traditional understandings are eerily similar to the modern scientific understandings of the interdependence of living things. You can witness for yourself this awe inspiring 16-minute show at the qathet Art Center during the remaining showings:
2-5 pm Saturday September 28
2-5 pm Sunday September 29
2-5 pm Tuesday October 1
2-5 pm Wednesday October 2
7-9 pm Closing Night Event
Also, you can have your own personal mind-altering mystical experience by immersing yourself into our treasured Stillwater Bluffs. And as you do, why not consider how happy your children and grandchildren will be to be able to do the same.
What’s new?
Your board of directors have been working diligently to raise public awareness to save the Bluffs. Our presence at the Blackberry Festival was a huge success as we signed up dozens of new friends and conversed with local politicians, artists, tree planters, loggers, teachers and overall a very supportive public. The same was true for the Farmers Market, the Sunshine Music Festival and the Fall Fair, and we are quickly closing in on our goal of having 500 “friends”.
Having “500 friends” is an important milestone. We realize we now need to make sure we are well organized so as to be prepared to communicate quickly and effectively in the event we need your support to write letters, attend meetings, or rallies. We are looking for volunteers willing to reach out to our community of “friends” and make the direct phone calls necessary to rally support. If you are so inclined to help and feel you can spare the time to attend to a list of phone numbers and make the necessary pleading calls in the event of an emergency then reply here lauritzsc@gmail.com The more hands, the lighter the load. You will not be contacted unless there is a genuine threat to the Bluffs.
And finally once again please nudge your friends and family along to join FOSBA and help to make our quest a success. https://www.fosba.org
Our new T-shirt order should be here near the end of October. They make great Christmas gifts.
Happy trails
Lauritz
